Rae Backus Victrola Cabinet-Style Phonograph Player Artisan Dollhouse Miniature

  
This is a truly wonderful cabinet-style (floor model) Victrola player. This style of record player was popular from the early 1900s through today (as a collector's item). This piece was hand crafted by. Rae Backus in 1980 making it over 40 years old.

It is in exceptionally good condition, really mint, with no signs of age or wear. The structure is made of wood and is finished with a dark brown stain that allows the grain to still show, but still makes it look like a perfect replica of the antique originals. The cabinet has a what was called a "dome-lid" (although it is actually flat). The lid has a tiny brass plate with delicate knob for pulling it open. It sits on two perfectly inset brass hinges, nice and tight, so it can sit open at almost any angle.

There is a fine brass chain inside that was designed to keep the lid from falling open further than 90°. Inside the top, there is a green felt covered turntable with a 78rpm style record glued to it, with a brass spindle. The lovely brass stylus can be lifted onto or off of the record. The front of the cabinet features an open-slat covered "speaker" area (covered n fabric, as they were). Below the speaker area there are two working doors that open to reveal four vertical compartments for storing records.

The cabinet sits on four nicely curved feet. The curve of the feet is echoed in the sides of the piece, which you can see in the photos from the sides. The final touch: there is a brass crank on one side with a little wood handle.

(It does not cause the turntable to revolve, however). This is a very special, hard to find piece.

What a perfect touch for a drawing room or living room. Beautifully crafted by a marvelous artisan. With lid open: 5" H x 1" W x 2¼. Is a handcrafted, pre-owned piece.

It is in excellent condition. Is a 1:12 (1 inch) scale miniature, unless otherwise stated in description.

It is an adult collectible miniature, and is not meant for children under the age of 14. The ruler in the photo is there to provide a reference point for scale. It is NOT meant to indicate any exact measurements!
